Free Seeds Coronavirus

In the Philippines, the government is distributing free seeds to those who want to grow their own food due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Filipinos can pick up variety packs containing eggplant, squash, okra, ampalaya, and sitaw seeds. These are all easy to grow in the Philippines and are commonly used in many local dishes. Another pack contains tomatoes, radish, kangkong, okra, and sitaw. These staple crops are also highly nutritious will help people get the nutrition they might be lacking if eating out of cans and other relief goods.

Regional Technical Director Carlota S. Madriaga of the Department of Agriculture stated “We have started distributing seeds to our local government units and other walk-In clients here in the office. We give out assorted vegetable seeds like Pinakbet vegetable and upland vegetables so they can also produce vegetables in their own households.”

Many local governments in the US have decided to take a different approach by banning the sale of seeds in many stores. They are not considered to be essential items during the crisis even though foodbanks are being swamped due to large numbers of unemployed.

I post information on how to garden here.

If they are still available, you can find garden supplies on Amazon to start your own garden. If you click on that link and buy anything I might receive a percentage from Amazon at no cost to you.
